Guarianthe bowringiana (O'Brien) Dressler & W.E.Higgins, Lankesteriana 7: 38 (2003).
Synonyms: Cattleya bowringiana O'Brien, Gard. Chron., n.s., 24(2): 683 (1885).
Cattleya skinneri var. bowringiana (O'Brien) Rchb.f., Xenia Orchid. 3: 82 (1892).
This species will grow into a massive specimen if given good growing conditions in a garden situation in Brisbane. It thrives on almost full sun and will flower prolificly when exposed to high light conditions. Leaves will become burnt under these conditions but the plant itself doesn't seem to mind that.

Names of Cattleyas
I was just curious, why this website prefer to have its own genus and hybrid names instead of using the more global and common ones? Won't this be confusing for someone who is new to the orchid world? I have known orchids for so many years and just as confused as new when I try to read all the unfamiliar names of the genus and hybrids in this website. Any particular reason? Or is it we just want to be different?
Sorry to ask you so many quesions but just wonder what is the purpose of this unfamiliar names.

We don't have our own genus and hybrid names, we are using the current up to date genus names.
Looks like you missed the Cattleya group classification review.

Thanks :)
Thanks for the info Bill. It seems I still stick to the old names. But where can I find the cattleya's group classification review from? Any website I can review from?
Regards,
OGee
That's ok!!!!
OGee, most of us have trouble with the new names, you are not alone.
In your own backyard call them what you like, I still do, if I take one for a car ride or put it up on the Website I of course have to use the new name.
APOHR implemented the changes for the Cattleya Group in May 2007 and then was taken up by Kew World Monocots List. Some people still blame RHS for the changes, RHS had nothing to do with it.
The actual review was published in Genera Orchidacearum vol.4

Thanks Bill :) If I don't
Thanks Bill :)
If I don't join this orchid website, I wouldn't have any clue what's happening in the orchid world. The new names really sound strange in my ears :) But anyway, I'll get used to it.
Thanks again, and I will do my homework from now on :)
