Mobilabium hamatum,
Named by Rupp this monotypic, miniature is widespread in the areas between the Bloomfield River and Townsville in North Queensland, where it inhabits the mountains and ranges above 500 metres altitude in humid gullys and rainforest.Quite noticeable are the 'Hooks' on the ends of the leaves (from which the name is derived)which make the species distinct from others in the subtribe Sarcanthinae.Cultivation is easy and it is another 'Hard to kill' orchid, 30-70% shade is sufficient and given its highland habitat, can be grown as far south as Melbourne. It is one of the faster growing species both in flask and out.I will be deflasking these soon and they should become available in early Spring. Flasks available now to those that are interested in this quaint species.
