Thanks so much Bill, I really appreciate your prompt help. Will now sit down and spend my hubbys hard earned money!!!!!! Simone
DRacula
Try Masdevallias as well as they are much easier to grow than Draculas. Masdevallias are less demanding. Masdevallias are more warmth tolerant, you live in QLD so make sure you have 2 aircons in your greenhouse during summer as in my experience Dracula flowers will often collapse when temps reaches over 27C and or humidity is well below 60%.
good advice
Very good advice I think migocab. Note the address for the Dracula nursery...Orchid Species Plus, Victoria
Even Masdevallias have problems for me here in SE Qld but I don't really have a very effective cool area for them. I have killed quite a few consequently.
Regards wellsy
Orchid Species Plus
It is owned and run by Jan and Bill Miles. It is about 1 Hour drive from where I live. Close to Ballarat. They have thousands of orchid species. I tend to lose alot of my pocket money when I visit their place.
The address is
405 Main Street
Kingston, Victoria
Australia. 3364
Masd n drac.
Gosh how lucky am I to have stumbled over this site, I have a diverse collection although small at present having moved, but I look forward to reading all the blogs, getting help etc. Gosh so much knowledge here. Thanks Simone
Dracs
Simone, I would say some very good advice about temperature conditions up here compared to what you were used to growing down south.
Good food for thought before out laying money on plants that you may have trouble growing up here without the extra expense of cooling.
Bill
drac n masd
Yes Bill, I do agree with you, thort now after re-thinking I may buy only one or two to try again. I have at present a Masd. Drama Queen out in flower, this plant has won me a few prizes at shows, so happy still flowering o.k. You boyz have definely fired me up to once again make time for my beloved hobby and to get out my camera and have a go at pics.

dracula and masdevallias
Thanks so much for your comments, yep I have also killed alot of these plants, but you know the old saying, "the heart must have what the heart wants." Therefore I will have to live in hope that I can grow one or two. Regards Simone
