To me this one was always labelled as Encyclia atropurpurea var. rosea.
Yes its hard to change to the new name in your own mind when you have had the plant such a long time but hey as long as I mark it on the label I have as much chance of knowing that as the old one. (lol I have way too many plants for that these days- at least my computer connected to the internet helps keep me on the right track)
Can you imagine how much time was spent by a great many people sorting out the above synonym trail?
Mind boggling isn't it. I say good on 'em as long as it is all done correctly....ie: systematically

confusion
Hi wellsy, I have always known this one as Encyclia selligera, have i got it wrong?

In fact I recognised the
In fact I recognised the similarity with the one being discussed here http://orchidsonline.com.au/node/4101 but I did note the quite differently marked side lobes, you might be the best one to tell me here Bernard? My plants ID story for as much as I know is on the post.

Gets harder to sort
To further complicate the search, I've seen an image of a cross between Encyclia alata and Encyclia cordigera and it looks more like pak sheikh's and your image. Whatever pak sheikh's image is, it looks like it has E.cordigera included. There are 3 or 4 species similar in this Encyclia complex.

status check
have you given any more consideration to this one Bernard?

Not yet.

Encyclia
After a lot of thought and searching, I think that this could be a cross between E,selligera (which has the colour and overall form of your image)and E.megalantha which gives the wider fuller lip together with the colour pattern. But the flower is dominated by E.selligera. It might be interesting to see if such a cross has been registered.

Well done Bern!!!!
For Wellsy, there is a hybrid registration by Slade in 1953 as Encyclia Raiatea using these two parents.
