Dendrobium Australian Purple Pepper
My best clone of this hybrid between D. fuliginosa (PNG species) and D. nugentii. I bought several seedling of this from Wal Upton in the mid 1980's and they were then labeled as Den. teretifolium "Black Pam" x Den. linguiforme var. Nugentii. I manipulated this flower to get a better photo of it, normally these blooms are more cuped as indeed one of its parents ie D fuliginosa is.

similar
This dendrobium hybrid looks not dissimilar to Bulbophyllum patens especially the widespread flower parts ("patens" from the latin meaning spreading) a reference to the wide open flowers. Also both flower colours are similar and both look to be non-resupinate. Of course the lips are entirely different. I am not suggesting that they are related as they are both from different genera. But the similarity is remarkable.
